The Highball - Billiards, Bar and Theater |
|

The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is at it again bringing Austin a new hot spot for bowling, billiards, karaoke and a little dash of live theater. The new venture by Tim League is taking over the recently vacated Salvation Army location on South Lamar. It is planned to be a center for activities, food, drink and, of course, live theater.
Atomic Picnic first learned of their secret plans during SXSW 2009 while producing musical showcases in the Salvation Army location. Soon after, we were tapped to design a theatrical lighting installation for the venture once called The Palace.
The theme of The Highball is "Retro 1950s Diner" and comes complete with a full kitchen, bar and lounge areas.
The bowling alley is constructed from salvaged original equipment and lanes reclaimed from a bowling alley in New Orleans.
We have designed the lighting installation to feature mostly LED technology and computer control systems offering the staff ease of use and reduced electrical consumption. View the construction photo slide show.
